If your engine is dead and you don’t want to get rid of your car, we can always replace the engine for you. We will inspect the engine thoroughly first to see if the engine can be restored by a partial rebuild. In some cases, the engine can be rebuilt and this will save you money. The key is to bring your vehicle to our shop at the first sign of serious engine trouble. Let’s talk more about this below.
Exhaust
For example, if the engine is producing a ton of exhaust, you have fluid hemorrhaging out of one of the systems. The exhaust itself will tell you which engine fluid is leaking. Think of it this way: black is fuel, blue is oil, and white is coolant. In other words, if you see a ton of black exhaust coming out of your tailpipe, your engine is hemorrhaging fuel. Rebuilding the leaking system may solve the problem.
Knocking
Your engine will also knock if it needs a partial rebuild. That is, unless the knocking is being caused by a fuel detonation problem. If the knock is coming from the cylinder block, we need to replace the rod bearings. This requires a partial engine rebuild to do the job. This being said, it is better than having the engine replaced. Bring your vehicle to our shop right away if the engine is knocking to avoid further damage.
Oil Trouble
The oil problem of death is metal shavings in the motor oil. This is an indication that your engine is literally dissolving. Unfortunately, the oil picks up the shavings from the dissolving parts as it circulates through the engine. We cannot resolve this engine problem with a rebuild. In this case, we will have to replace the engine completely.
Overheating
If your engine is overheating all the time, stop driving the vehicle to prevent additional damage. We will inspect the cooling system to see if this is the reason why the engine is running too hot. If it is, we will replace the cooling system. Don’t breathe easy just yet, however, because the engine could also be overheating because of a cracked head gasket or engine block.
Finally, your engine will stop producing power when it has reached the end of its life. No matter how hard you try to get the automobile to move forward, it won’t. In all cases, we recommend that you have your vehicle towed to our shop to prevent damaging the engine further. Once we know what the problem is, we will give you a detailed estimate of the rebuild or replacement.
